HAVE A REALLY JOYOUS PURIM WITH THESE MONEY SAVING TIPS

Maximizing Your Purim Budget: Tips for Mishloach Manot, Costumes, and Festive Fun

As Purim approaches, it’s time to plan your holiday preparations. From making Mishloach Manot to finding the perfect costume, here are some savvy tips to help you save money while still enjoying the festivities to the fullest.

Mishloach Manot:

  • Stay organized by creating a list of people who you want to send mishloach manot to and sorting them into categories like family, friends, and neighbours. This will ensure you don’t forget anyone and avoid unnecessary leftovers.  Perhaps limit your list, sometimes it is quality and not quantity that matters.
  • Purchase items in bulk and divide them into packages to save money. Watch out for misleading advertising remember we have Pesach around the corner.
  • Consider homemade treats like cakes and cookies, which are not only cheaper but also add a personal touch to your packages.
  • Explore delivery ideas for your Mishloach Manot to make them even more special for the recipients.

Costumes:

  • Before rushing to buy a costume, take stock of what you already have in your closets. You might be surprised by what you find, from old clothes to accessories.  My most favourite costume of all times, was when I dressed up as My Fair Lady, wearing my mother’s beautiful nightie.
  • Borrow costumes from friends, family, or neighbours to save money and reduce waste.
  • Check out second-hand costume fairs at schools and community centres for affordable options. Don’t underestimate the creativity of homemade costumes, especially when involving older kids in the design process.
  • Or make your own.  One Purim I made a butterfly for my daughter Noya, using a pillowcase and buying her wings.  She loved it!

For Those Considering Purchases:

  • Research prices and options online before making any purchases to ensure you’re getting the best deal.
  • Involve your children in the decision-making process to avoid buying a costume they won’t wear. Set a budget and manage expectations accordingly.
  • Plan ahead by taking advantage of post-Purim sales to stock up on accessories and classic costumes for future years.
