Are BIT and PayBox still free?
Not always… here’s what you need to know! ![]()
For years, BIT and PayBox have been a super convenient (and free!) way to transfer money between friends and family in Israel. All that was needed was your credit card and the receiver’s phone number.
However, things are starting to change ![]()
From January 2025, both apps are allowed to start charging fees — but only in certain cases.
What does this mean in practice?
If the total amount you send or receive is up to ₪25,000 per year, you will most likely pay NO fees. This covers normal, everyday use for most people.
If you go over ₪25,000 per year, an additional fee may be charged on the amount above that limit. The fee is expected to be around 0.6%–1%, depending on the app.
For most private users, nothing changes; however, if you regularly use BIT or PayBox for:
• freelance income
• family support
• shared expenses
• large or frequent transfers
…it’s worth keeping an eye on your totals.
Bottom line:
Small, casual use = usually still free
Higher annual usage = possible fees
As always, awareness is the first step to smarter financial decisions
